Pot makes me paranoid and worsens my depression and anxiety, some of this is due to it being illegal where I live but some is due to mental illness. These days there are so many very positive claims (many of them may prove to be true) for Cannabis that sometimes the harms seem to be banished to the background and anyone issuing warnings is a real party pooper and square as.For many people despite the very positive claims for cannabis, it can cause a lot of strife and lead to sad and catastrophic outcomes. However that is not to deny that many people find it a god send for treating a wide variety of illnesses and also just as a way of chilling out and relaxing. If I could use a little daily I feel I would be o.k. But as I work in a very high tech industry I really can not afford to even be hung over at work at all. So for me cannabis might be at best just a Friday and maybe Saturday night thing. Even with this low usage ( no smoking in the day) I find it very hard and depressing when I stop.This book strikes a pretty good balance between praise for the social and medical benefits of cannabis while still presenting the potential pitfalls.It has been a great insight for me and I have found it hard to put down as I find cannabis a herb or drug that polarises me greatly. I both love it and fear it. It is the transition from stoned ness back to 'normal' that I find difficult. This book does not just run off with constant praise, it pulls you back at times with good advise and helps you learn that cannabis definitely requires respect. It also teaches you so much about the preparation and methods of using it...Great Reading

Overall this is a very good book with a wide variety of information written in a consumer-friendly format. It is an overview so don't expect scientifically hard data from clinical studies. The only warning I have is to beware of any claims about indications for treating specific diseases. There are a lot of sentences that say marijuana "may" do this or "is being researched for" that or "has been reported to help" the other thing. So take any claims of efficacy with a grain of salt.There are discussions on how it is used as medicine, with some solid basic information on THC extraction methods into foodstuffs (butter, oil, etc). Anyone who is contemplating the use of marijuana as medicine for pain, nausea, etc. would appreciate this book.

I recommend this film for scholastic purposes. It's perfect for Advocates , Students, Educators for Higher Learning and for those that seriouslywant to submit a Petition to their "Elected Government Officials" regarding :Drug Reform , and Legalization of Medical Cannabis and 420 for their State !

This is an excellent quick easy read for folks to get an overview of current knowledge about risks and benefits and indications of medical marijuana. With new state laws in place legalizing use for medical purposes, and now in Washington and Colorado for recreational use, hopefully more medical professionals will educate themselves and this is a good place to start.I downgraded by 1 star because, I did not see (1) explicit warnings that is still technically illegal by federal law, and should only be consumed behind closed doors, should be kept under lock & key if not in personal possession. (2) IMHO, not enough warning about the extent of teenagers entering chemical dependency treatment primarily for marijuana use and (3) inadequate mention of currently available testing of strains for CBD and THC levels . Other than that, there's a lot of up to date useful information here. And I am unaware of anything better now in print.

I guess I must be looking for the Holy Grail of Med Can books, and this one isn't quite there. It is a very good book, has tons of very factual and useful info, and is a good reference book, but I want more. I have been a Med Can user for nearly a year now and I have to say I need more information. I know it's difficult to gather information on a product that has been outlawed from use and more importantly reasearch for 40+ years, but still, I am expecting more than was presented.Excellent for newbies, but I can't give it 5 stars because I just like it, not love it.

I bought this book in hopes of beginning to understand the medical evidence and uses behind medical marijuana. As a person with MS, several slipped discs in neck and back and Fibromyalgia, I deal with a ton of pain that is chronic in nature. I've been on stuff as strong as methadone and did not receive the same type of pain relief as I do with Cannabis. It's amazing without making you crazy. I never would have believed Cannabis had medical relevance ... now after reading and experiencing it firsthand, I know it is true.This book will highlight the medical benefits and setbacks (mainly the smoke) of Marijuana as well as the legislation and legality of it. It will outline the different ways to ingest and each method's benefits. Laws are changing all of the time and although this book has some updates in the back and lists an awesome website, perhaps a new edition would be very welcomed. Informative, enlightening and very useful.5 stars!

It's hard to find solid information about medical marijuana. It would be so nice if you could just go to the pharmacy and get the exact doseage you needed. But since you can't yet, you need to educate yourself as best you can. I found a lot of very useful information in this book.

Adventure, yes. Adventure writing no. This was an introspective look at the adventure of rafting down the Colorado River. Those of us who are in the later years of our outdoor opportunities will understand how Fletcher takes a train of thought from the River to his life experiences. It seemed to me that the book itself was divided into three parts. The first part was from the source to Lake Powell with an emphasis on quite a bit of philosophy. The second part was the Grand Canyon with an emphasis on memories and running the rapids. The third part was Lake Mead to the Pacific Ocean with an different, darker emphasis to his philosophy. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and recommend it to people who aren't after adventure narratives, but want more philosophic ideas with their adventure.

Another great adventure story told by a person that many refer to as the "father of backpacking". At the time he undertook this adventure he was 67 years old. I think that it's not only a testament to his fortitude but a message to all of us who are getting to that age. The message is to stay alive and always seek the most out of life. There's currently a fantastic biography of Colin Fletcher written by someone I know and hopefully it will find a publisher so Colin will live on and inspire future hikers and backpackers.

To start with, I have not read the whole book. I have only started to read this book (July 2014). I have been looking forward to doing what author Fletcher has done, so this is a God Send to me. Because of my advanced age I will not be able to make the entire journey but I can take some of it in segments. What I can or can not di I will find in this book. I have read the first 2 chapters and I can see what an expedition he undertook and where and when I can "jump in" to experience some of what he did. So ... Thank You Colin For your book !

A timeless account, well written, well thought out, thought provoking, and if possible even more pertinent now than it was when it occurred.

Fletcher is, of course, the guy who wrote so many terrific books about hiking, and about his hikes. He's a very observant guy and swell literary craftsman.

Colin Fletcher captures a time and a place. The forces of development were closing in on the wild Green River at the time of his great adventure. My family and I made a short trip down the Green this year. I could hear the echo of Colin's observations in what we saw. Fletcher was a great writer. The essence of his trip captures the run of this great American river from the Wind River Range, WY to the delta in Mexico. I was transported to the day and time of Fletcher's raft ride.

I did a whitewater rafting trip last year through Canyonlands NP and this book brought the wonderful memories of that trip - the beauty of the scenery and excitement of the rapids - back to me full force. I LOVED this book. Colin Fletcher's descriptions really bring you to the river and its surrounding beauty. I love how he describes everything, and how he goes off on tangents back to memories of his own life. This book is well worth the read!

I enjoyed this very much. Vintage Fletcher, like his backpacking books. Keen eye for nature. Also a careful read will produce allusions to all his other books, Including the man in the cave one. I hope there is one more books left in him. Best wishes Colin in your endeavors.

Did Corinne Michaels write this? Nobody even died. I kid. On a serious note, though, Evermore was a fantastic re-entry to the Salvation world. It’s been a minute since I’d read any of the books and while I did remember the broad strokes, it was good to have the refresher of who everyone was and how they all connected. Gretchen and Ben’s relationship was adorable and I’m so happy we got to know their story.I’m a sucker for a good second-chance romance, especially one that began when they were just children and their first chance at love ended before it ever really started. Gretchen and Ben had such fantastic chemistry from the beginning, from the first second they reconnected the connection they shared was palpable. They had both been damaged by the people who should have cared for them most in the past; their reunion seemed fated.I loved both Gretchen and Ben, and how they supported one another. The damages that had been done to them by their exes was profound and watching them slowly piece each of their broken parts back together. Their love was so pure and true; it was a thing of beauty to see them rediscover and nurture it into something vital and healing.Evermore is a novella in Corinne Michaels’ Salvation series; it would most likely be billed as book 5.5. The Salvation series is a series of two duets and a standalone, which are all interconnected. The duets must be read in order, but otherwise, the stories don’t have to be read in order. Evermore is written in dual first-person perspective, narrated by Gretchen and Ben.

I absolutely loved Corinne Michaels’ Salvation series and when I heard she was going to write a novella for Catherine’s best friend, Gretchen, I was over the moon.This novella did not disappoint and it felt like a reunion of some of my favorite characters from the series. The real stars though are Ben and Gretchen. They were childhood friends and they find themselves back in each other’s orbit. The sparks are still there, but they are both dealing with pain and heartbreak.This novella was amazing and fans of the Salvation series will love it.

If I could give Evermore more than 5 stars, I would. I love Ben & Gretchen! I love the people they are and who they become together. If you are a fan of the Salvation Series, this is a must read.I enjoyed getting to see all of my favorite Seals from previous books and of course their better halves. I love the friendship Ashton, Gretchen, & Cat have and enjoyed seeing it again.I will say if you have not read any Salvation Series books before, you don’t have to in order to read this book.

Evermore by Author Corinne Michaels is a novella in the amazing Salvation Series. It is an interconnected series about Navy Seals and the women they love...strong women. This is Ben and Gretchen’s book. It is a wonderful story. So good, that dare I say I want to beg for more books in the series. If the author is reading this...pretty please!Now, back to the book. Gretchen and Ben were best friends as children. When they reconnect as adults the sparks fly. The problem is that they have both been hurt by exes and life in general. They aren’t quick to trust what they feel or relationships in general. The push and pull and amazing chemistry between them is undeniable, even to them.The love that they shared and built on is a thing of beauty. They raise each other up and fill in the cracks left by others.I highly recommend this book and the series. Did I mention that if the author is reading this...more Salvation Series please? Whistles off to In The Navy by the Village people while mentally visualizing Fleet Week.

There is just something about a story with hard working, military men, with hearts of gold that make me fall hard. Add to the story a strong, smart, heartbroken woman who reconnects with her childhood love - I am officially a huge mess of emotions falling in love with this book! Gretchen and Ben first fell in love with each other in middle school, but after Ben’s family moves away, Gretchen is devastated and never truly moves on. When they reconnect years later at Cole Security- it like they never were apart. Both damaged by past love, they need to overcome trust issues and personal insecurities to find their forever love. This book was a wonderful addition to the Salvation series - these men and women are some of my favorite characters. 5 Stars for me!

This is a novella to the Salvation series. This is Ben & Gretchen's story. Ben and Gretchen have a history. They were friends as teenagers until fate separated them. They are no reunited and the chemistry is still there but they are both broken. Ben from war and his ex wife and Gretchen from her ex. Is there chemistry enough to mend broken hearts and help each other heal? I really loved these characters and their story. As with the other books they are in a series but can be read as stand alone but I highly recommend starting at the beginning and reading the entire series. You will not be disappointed and then you will know all the characters who make appearances throughout the books.

I have been wanting to dive back into the lives of these characters for so so long. How I've missed the feelings this series evokes from the brotherhood, the friendships and the feel it deep in your bones love. My heart ached for Ben and all he has been through after dedicating his life to what he was meant to do. Michaels writes such amazingly strong women who I respect and try to emulate in real life. Gretchen is another glowing example of this. She's the friend you want in our corner.I only wish Evermore wasn't a novella but a full length novel, I wasn't ready to let Ben and Gretchen go so quickly!!

There’s a new seal in town and he DOESN’T DISAPPOINT! Oh Ben your going to be stealing hearts fast! I was home again , I’ve missed the gang from the Salvation Series. Revisiting old friends making new ones. if you haven’t Read the series( I highly suggest you do) don’t worry you can read as a stand alone . Don’t miss this , you’ need to read this! NEED AND WANT TRUST ME!

I lay no claim to be a Goth, even an Elder Goth, but I do admit to being Goth-curious (don't know what those mean? That's why you need this book!) For those looking for a way to learn more about them without having to put on fishnet, striped tights or eyeliner, Liisa (that's how the book spells it, no matter what Amazon says...) Ladouceur gives almost 300 pages of definitions of all things Goth (not Gothic - an important difference, although she does mention the Visigoths and their Ostrogoth cousins in passing). The scope is world-wide, although outside the U.S. she devotes little space to anything besides the UK, Germany and Japan - isn't there a Goth scene in Russia by now? She also does so with a outrageous humor that is totally at odds with the usual media image as Goths as cheerless souls who hang around in dark corners obsessing about the sadness of life. There is even a subset called Perky Goths, Liisa informs us, who wear pink and are relentlessly cheerful (the black-clad corner lurkers, she says, are a subset known as Mopey Goths). There are also Trad Goths (who don't believe anything Gothic post-dates 1990), Cyber Goths (who are obsessed with technology, natch) and Faerie Goths (usually found chilling out at Renaissance Fairs), and so on. The book also gives a pretty good fast summary of the "progressive music" scene from the beginnings of punk to more-or-less the present, although obviously she concentrates on the groups of most interest to Goths. The book's one drawback is that it was complete up to 2011, when it was published - nothing changes faster that popular culture, and by 2014 it is in need of an update!

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. I have been a fan of Gothic music since 1987 and apparently the author is close to my age so we have experienced many of the same things as far as Goth goes. Most of the stuff in the book was nothing new to me but the author wrote in such a witty way it was still very enjoyable. However, there were some things that she covered that had somehow bypassed me over the long years of enjoying this wonderful subculture. Most of it was in regards to Goth fashion retailers and companies out there that sell clothing for Goths. However, being a Rivethead, I am not really that huge into fashion anyway. There were a few things that were annoying about her viewpoints but everyone has an opinion and she warns the reader in the introduction that she would not be totally seriously and would be inserting her own opinion on the topics that she writes about. This would be a great introduction for anyone new to the world of Goth.

To distill an entire subculture into one book isn't any easy task. In the case of "Encyclopedia Gothica," it's even harder as Goths are constantly asking the question "What is Goth ?" and reinventing the definition. Surely, there will be at least one Goth who reads this book and exclaims "They included Band X ?! They're not Goth !" or "Why wasn't Band Y included ? They're G.A.F.!" (Exclamation #2 was my refrain when I discovered that the band This Ascension was missing an entry. By the way, if you don't know what G.A.F. is, you need this book.)Nevertheless, the author does an admirable job of including the right stuff and leaving out the superfluous. Enduring Goth stuff and stuff that Goths have loved forever (Sisters of Mercy; Kambriel, the fashion designer; Hammer Horror films; Snakebite cocktails, etc.) are included while flash-in-the-pan micro-trends and the promising-but-too-new are not. (Sorry, Coilhouse magazine.)What elevates Encyclopedia Gothica above other reference works are the wry opinions of the author. With typical Goth snarkiness, what could have been a dry reference work becomes much more entertaining, even if you don't agree with the author's viewpoints. (Personally, I didn't think Winona Ryder was all that bad in "Bram Stoker's Dracula," although she was upstaged by Sadie Frost. )In any case, Encyclopedia Gothica, in short order, has earned a place on my bookshelf right next to my copies of Baudelaire's "Flowers of Evil" and Voltaire's "What Is Goth ?" and "Paint It Black: The Guide To Gothic Homemaking." All dark hearts should get a copy. . . .

This is a beautifully presented, lovingly-written account of the who's who, what's what, origins, and history of the Gothic arts. Less "Goth for Dummies" than a well-organized and comprehensive guide to the wonderfully dark underworld by one who has obviously lived it. The lovely cover art makes this a great (Halloween) gift for your favourite night person. It would fell right at home on the shelf amongst the Poppy Z. Brite and Ann Rice or displayed on the mantle or coffee table.

This is definitely a great addition to any darkling's library. Well researched and beautifully bound and illustrated.

Such an amazing guide to all things one would want or need to know about the subculture! Thank you for this compilation!
