I really like the look and layout of this book. I will be vising both Montreal and Quebec for the first time in a few months so I got this book as a primer to learn more about the cities and what we should do while there. This book is definitely more Montreal based with less focus on Quebec (but we'll be in Montreal for longer so that suits our needs just fine!) It has an easy layout for browsing if you're not really sure what you're looking for. It also has an interesting "Understand Montreal and Quebec City" which has some details on the history and such of each city, which I think is a nice touch. As I haven't actually gone on the trip yet I can't attest to it's usefulness on the fly (although it is quite small and light so I expect it will be easy to carry around with us while on the move) but I'm looking forward to browsing these pages while we plan what we want to do in these cities!

Lonely Planet has always been my go-to for straightforward lowdown and insider tips. The organization has always been just as straightforward. Not so in this book, which combines Montreal with Quebec City. I was only in Montreal, so did not need the Quebec info, but even still, I found the organization difficult to follow at times. Neighborhood references overlap and can be hard to follow. Also, it seems like the recommendations are tilted toward the expensive, obvious end of the scale. For example, the recommended "thrift stores" along St.-Laurent are the pricey, "vintage" stores. I liked Eva B., which I found on Yelp! It was truly funky, cheap, the real thing.

On our recent trip to Montréal and Québec City, this book was marginally helpful.We attended the Rogers Cup at Uniprix Stadium in Montréal - a major tennis tournament. The guide had absolutely no references to this location which was a major venue.If you see an entry of a restaurant or shopping you like, there is no guidance on which metro line or stop to take! So it didn't help much.The sections of the city (Montréal) were accurately described. However, the writing seemed biased and not neutral. Would have preferred a truly diverse, unbiased guide.The section for Québec City had no mention of shopping, restaurants, only the history of the town and photos. Disappointing.

I bought the Kindle version and I am glad I did. It is so convenient to use the links they provide throughout the book to search for in-depth information. The book was full of all or most of what you would want to know before going. I nearly gave it a 4-star rating as I don`t like the page numbering and ability to navigate around Kindle- unless I don`t know what I am doing. I wasn`t able to enlarge the print on the section dealing with basic French language- and the print was a bit too small. I needed a magnifying glass. Still, I feel this book has, as do most every if not all, lonely planets, given me all that I need to know to not only have a successful trip, but also get to know the cities better even though I can`t visit most place given limited time and resources.

This book was excellent for our trip to Montreal/Quebec, although we were not there long enough to see as much as we would have liked. It is even more fun to go back and read up on all the places we did see. It was nicely divided into sections and had good maps, including a pull out one.

I really enjoyed my trip to Montreal by this book. It contains a lot of hot spots of East Canada, and information about other things are almost correct. I highly recommend to use this book when you travel to Montreal or Quebec

I think this book would be excellent in the hard copy edition. I love Lonely Planet travel guides as they give you practical information and insites that other guides miss. The kindle edition was difficult for me to use while I was in Montreal due to the lack of an index. I am older and am used to finding information by looking at an index and going to the page number. However, I will now go through it and read it for fun. In the future, I will continue to purchase Lonely Planet guides, but probably will get them in the hard copy format. The pictures are gorgeous in the book for the kindle edition and the information was spot on.

Pretty solid LP guide for Montreal. Quebec City piece needs some work though as does the day trip section out of montreal and quebec city. Some solid restaurant and neighborhood recommendations. A little outdated on prices and some locations at this point.

This book is a great history lesson of the techniques from the pastimes. It was very informative, however for the beginning trapper like myself I felt somewhat let down by the book. It didn’t hit on very much of the modern day traps and snares. The lures recipie section was interesting, however the animals section is lacking for sure at least for my geographical world location. Trapping mountain lion, Grizzly Bear, and Tigers is not going to happen in the Southeastern US. OVERALL not a bad book, I learned a lot, just not a lot of practical information for myself.

This book was great i'm fairly new to trapping so i wasn't sure how it would go. There are simple traps for the beginner and it gets to more advanced traps for the expert. It covers all from primitive log traps to the modern day steel traps. The only problem i had with this book is that it didn't have very much on the smaller game such as squirrels, rabbits, etc but did have a whole bunch of stuff on bear, tiger, mountain lion, etc which i would not need to trap personally.

How do you improve on perfection? You don’t.This is the tell all, be all, final say on trapping and outdoor protein acquiring skills. It’s timeless. The size was a great surprise(see pics) and every trap and strategy is described in great detail. There’s no room for guessing here they just walk you right through it.I could not be happier and having this with you in the bush will greatly increase your success rate.

the book covered most concepts and had much good information. it would be great if someone would publish a more modern edition with up dated photos instead of using the same photos from , what appears to be the 1890s. but still the information Is great

My grandson has been hunting, trapping and fishing now for about 10 years. This was a Christmas gift and he loves it. He bought one for his friend so they can team up and trap together

I have read a lot of basic photography books and articles, but I think this one is the best! It put all the puzzle pieces together for me. I had a lot of photography information stored and compartmentalized somewhere in my brain. When I read this book, it just all came together and made sense. I am actually going to move from shooting in Aperture Mode to Manual! To illustrate, let me start by saying that all photography teachers/authors refer to the exposure triangle, but David helped me see how to put this to use! First, set the ISO, and then decide if you are going for depth of field (A) or action (S). If you've chosen depth of field (A), for example, then your third step is to set the shutter speed (or vice versa). I love such practical advice! David is a great teacher. He introduces concepts clearly, he gives examples, he gives you assignments, and he reviews! "Demystified" is a very apt word for his title!

For anybody that wants to quickly learn how to get off your camera's "Auto Mode", and experience taking sharp, professional looking photographs, this is a must read! Trust me, I wish I had this material 4 years ago when I bought my first DSLR, it would have saved me a lot of frustration and time. David does a great job of taking you through some simple steps (without too much "photographer-jargon") that will not only teach you what you are capable of, but inspire you to capture all life's special moments. Thank you for this book, better late than never 👊🏼😎.

If I had this book when I started doing digital photography a few years ago, it would have been a great help. As it was, I struggled and picked up tidbits along the way, mostly through trial and error. This is a well written book in easy, logical steps. The author starts with helping you develop your artist side as well as your technical side. He helps you understand WHY good photographs are made by the photographer. Then he carefully leads you through the types of cameras. Following that he discusses the importance of light to photography and how this relates to the exposure triangle (aperture, shutter, and ISO). Not to worry. He discusses each in plain English that makes it easy to understand. Then he discusses the different types of lenses and when you would use them. Once you know these basics, then he talks about composing your images. Lastly he discusses flashes (the types and how to use them for different situations).What makes this book a really good primer is there are Action Items scattered throughout the chapters which ask you to perform certain tasks. The best way to learn is to DO the action. At the end of the book there are some assignments designed to help you develop your skills as a photographer. All together this book was well written and logically presented for the beginning photographer. It might also be good for the photographer who needs to brush up on their skills and knowledge.The only downside to this book are the photos and illustrations which are tiny thumbnails throughout the book. I read this on my iPad and my copy did not allow me to enlarge any of the images. It would have gotten 5 stars if the images had been larger.Update: The author sent me the revised edition with full size photos and graphics. I will change my rating to 5* because this is a fine book with excellent photos to help the beginner photography. I highly recommend this book.

Excellent for beginner photographers to understand their camera and how to tap into its potential for making good images. I know two people who got their first DLSR this past Christmas and will recommend this book to them. In the introduction to the exposure triangle, David explains why it works the way it does and not just what it does. That "why" explanation allows the reader to generalize how exposure settings can be changed for many different situations. His approach to explaining why camera settings work as they do also cascades into very practical advice throughout the book. An easy to read writing style, technical issues explained with practical examples and simple to do Assignments combine to make a excellent approach to learning this type of information. The McKay's have been teaching and leading photography workshops for many years and this book series will provide many more with the ability to enjoy photography.

While the scholarship is good the book as a whole is disappointing. The writing seems flat and not engaging. It reads like a book that was commissioned to be written for a particular group rather than a subject that the author was passionate about. I considered using it with an adult church school class I teach in a mainline Protestant church but decided against it. .

Used it as part of our Bible study. The author had a number of lessons to help us understand these men, their lives, the people to whom they were prophesizing, and how it can affect our lives today. I will say that I was glad I had it on my Kindle because her vocabulary was on the high end and there were a number of times I needed to look up words to find their meaning or to ensure I understood how they were being used.

It was okay. I expected a more concise reading and it ended up being an overview. It was a UMW reading list so it fulfilled the need.

I received this book in excellent condition. I am pleased with the product., it is great knowing that these books are so accessable to me.

My son loves this story! We are huge Thomas fans in our house and we had the Thomas ABC book, so I was very happy to see this 123 book. My son was thrilled to match up the set and see all his train friends in another great quality Thomas storybook. I recommend this book for everyone and really any age that wont rip the pages. My son is 8 and still likes to read counting books.

It goes up to 20, and my son loves it. He actually seemed addicted to it for a while, so that we all know it front to back now. Once you've read it a few times, you can start to switch things up, and I was surprised how ready he was for that. For example, Edward has 3 cars, and Gordon has 4...the book asks, which is greater? But I try to ask a different question every time: Which is fewer? which has less? Which is on the left? which is faster? He's also been able to recognize most of the teens, which was challenging at first. It's been a great book for us.

It's pretty good. Love how it counts all the way to 20, since my 2.5 year old has already mastered counting to 10. I wish the pictures of the items to be counted were much bigger though. The picture of the train is big and takes up 2/3 of the page, but then you are trying to count these teeny tiny seagulls in the corner. But I like it much better than another counting book we have that is too huge with flaps you have to lift up and very cumbersome. This book is a more comfortable size for me to hold while my son is on my lap.

My toddler is a big Thomas & Friends fan. With this book, I am able to keep his attention and he seems to be interested in learning numbers with Thomas. He now knows to count from 1 to 20 thanks to this wonderful book!We also purchased Thomas ABC book, which also helps him learn his alphabet!

Very cute book! My 2 year old loves Thomas and this book features a different train and number on every page, he loves going through it and finding all his "train friends". Pages are thin (regular paper) so wouldn't be good for a child who can't turn pages without ripping them, but all in all it's a great book and we really enjoy reading it.

My toddler is a Thomas fan, so he asks for this book to read and starts counting the items. The size is great for his little hands and the only CON that I see is that the pages can get very deteriorated with a young kid learning to pass them quickly. Otherwise, we have lots of fun counting with this book. He's 2 years old and counts over 10 already, so this book has helped.

I bought this for my grandsons and my daughter in law said they love them. Thomas the Train is my 3 yr. old grandson's favorite. He is very bright, so the 123 book will reinforce what she is already teaching them.

My grandson loves Thomas the Train. He knows them all by heart and at 3 can count to 20 so this is really good for him. He loves it.I received the book just like new and am very happy to get it. I also got the Thomas ABC Book as well.

Cooking outside just went to a whole new level by using a full griddle grill. This book presents everything needed to make anyone switch to a new griddle grill. With all my neighbors grilling constantly, I was convinced I was the only person who was spending all my time wrapping fish or vegetables in foil because they were falling into the grill. Now I realize the full griddle grill is my perfect answer. Not only are all my vegetables grilling perfectly – I can cook most anything outside. After reading the Awesome Backyard Griddle Cookbook, I opted for the smaller grill and I love it! This is much more than a cookbook. Over forty recipes take you from breakfast pancakes or omelets, to lunch burgers or Cuban sandwiches, dinner can be scallops and asparagus or chicken parmesan (things I never could have managed on a regular grill). I am now wielding a water spray bottle and spatula and enjoying cooking outside!

This book is everything a cookbook should be AND MORE! I can't tell you how disappointing it is to find a cookbook with recipes only, a cookbook is not just about the ingredients and recipes but also the visuals. The photos in this book are absolutely glorious and mouthwatering. You will want to try EVERY. SINGLE. THING. Trust me. I love that everything is organized by meal types i.e. breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts, sidedishes etc. etc! It makes it so easy to know where to look when trying to find our next meeal. The best part about this cookbook is the size! It's so small and compact. I often feel so overwhelmed by cookbooks I don't actually buy or use them, or they get tossed and lost somewhere with otehr books. This book is so small and compact it makes it SO easy to actually have the opportunity to try all the recipes. We are slowly but surely committed to trying every recipe in here. Our latest try was the Turkey and Melted Brie Sandhiwhhc with green chiles - oh man, if your mouth isn't watering yet, it should be! This was so freaking good!! Simple and oh so delicious. I love the glossiness of the pages too, it just makes the photos pop. as a visual person, I really need the visuals before I try a recipe. Highly recommend this!

This is one of the best cookbooks that I have found in a long time. Recipes are extra good. It is summer and what better way to prepare a meal outside than on a griddle. I know this book is for griddles but could be adapted for any cooking outside. Recipes are for breakfast, lunch, dinner, snacks, desserts and sauces. There are about 45 recipes in total. An introduction has the history of the griddle, how to use the griddle, types of griddle grills, tools and equipment needed, maintance, and preparing to cook. All are very well explained and easy to follow. Ingredients are common and ones already in most homes. If you do not have them, they are in every supermarket. Illustrations are good and show what the recipe with look like. This book would be a perfect book for anyone. Even one who does not enjoy cooking. That is how easy the recipes are.

This book has been SO much fun already in our backyard this summer! I have never tried using a flat-top for anything except meat and meat substitutes. This book opened a whole new world. We've been having the neighbors over for dinner and grilling all kinds of things-- breakfast foods, bahn mi, chicken parmesan... next on our list is a Japanese specialty called okonomiyaki that I had once in a restaurant but had never dreamed of cooking. Best of all, the recipes are SIMPLE. I'm so tired of cookbooks that require 10-12 ingredients per dish. It's impossible to keep a fridge stocked affordably that can handle that kind of variety. Give this book a shot if you're a flat-top owner: you won't regret it!

Cooking on a grill or griddle has always seemed slightly terrifying to me, despite the fact that it's not all that different from cooking on a stove. This book is changing that. Not only does Sidoriak include some snippets about the fascinating history of griddles, he also leads you through the proper use of a griddle. There's a super helpful section on the accessories you're going to need (and where to find them!), and the recipes here are deeee-licious! I found these recipes to be easy to follow and the pictures that accompany them are amazing. It's a beautifully organized cookbook, one that any beginning griller needs in their arsenal.

I really enjoyed this cookbook for a few reasons. For me, the fact that it had detailed but easy-to-read step by step instructions for the care of the griddle grill was essential. I didn't know this first thing about this new appliance, and knowing how to clean it properly and both what seasoning it meant and how to do it, made all the difference. The other thing I really like about this cookbook is that isn't not just meats. Sure, there are great recipes for burgers and bacon, but there are ALSO fabulous recipes for making french toast or pancakes on the griddle grill. I like that this book helps me use my griddle grill a lot, which makes it an efficient and worthwhile cooking appliance for me to own. Definitely a go-to for anyone buying a griddle grill for the first time, or someone looking to expand their repertoire.

If you are at all interested in diving into the world of outdoor griddles, let Sidoriak be your guide! His book is very well organized and written in a voice that inspires confidence and minimizes any fear you may have over trying something new. And if you're already a seasoned outdoor griddler, you're bound to find new fun recipes in this book. I'm particularly impressed with his ramen pork & veggie cake and the bacon jalapeno-wrapped corn. The pictures are beautiful and make it difficult to chose a recipe to start with. Thank you for the inspiration Paul!

Read this years ago from a library book, but since we now have a collection of Hitch films on DVD / Blu-ray, was time to get a copy for home. It is illuminating to read what this gifted analyst of Hitchcock's films has to say about each film. Read that part before watching one---you'll see what I mean. Alfred Hitchcock once stated that you need to see his films more than once to get what he's doing. I do recommend this book by Spoto.

A comprehensive analysis and criticism of each of the films directed by Hitchcock from around 1925 until his death, written by an author that feels that Hitchcock was one of the few true artists involved in Hollywood film-making during the "Golden Age". This book has been revised from the original edition of more than 30 years ago, and according to the author's introduction with new information and insights. As a few people have noted, two more books have been released by Donald Spoto on Hitchcock that delve into Hitchcock's personal life . This volume has only some brief biographical information, and focuses entirely on his film output with a little background information on film casting and production. What I liked about this book is that the individual analyses were concise and to the point. Spoto is passionate and opinionated about Hitchcock's films, and he does not shrink from making bold statements about Hitchcock's intended themes and symbols. He develops a consistent pattern of criticism, and clearly expresses his ideas with extensive examples from the movies. Perhaps the language of criticism takes itself a little too seriously for the movie buff( of which I include myself), but the book avoids the type of avant-garde film theory that is fashionable among some critics.Spoto grants Hitchcock an exalted status among Golden Age directors for artistic merit, and as a scholar Mr Spoto is very precise and detailed in making his case. Despite the almost evangelical tone to the book, Spoto states in the introduction that his interpretation is not meant to be the final word on Hitchcock, or his flms. While I am not sure how sincere the comment is, it is an acknowledgement of sorts to the strong viewpoints that follow. Whether you agree with the analyses, or Spoto's contentions on Hitchcock as the artist, the book is well-written and makes for informative reading.Many people consider this one of the best and most accessible of the books on Hitchcock's films. Apparently, Hitchcock liked it so much that he invited Spoto onto the set of what would be his final film. Worth a look if you love Hollywood film, probably a must read if you love Hitchcock.

Don't bother with this book. It was disappointing to read that the author is a self-proclaimed extrovert, but evidently knows ALLLLLL about introverts because her husband is one. I didn't appreciate Kahnweiler's implication that introverts aren't firing on all cylinders, or that her flimsy "data recording" included "conversations" she had with just 100 people--including hallway chats. How does a so-called researcher validate pedestrian data? The book is patronizing to introverts and misleading for extroverts. Author gets an extra star (for a total of two starts) because the book is an easy read: at least her adjectives are in front of her nouns.

If you are looking for a good book about introverts in the workplace, read Quiet by Susain Cain. I got through this book, but it was a struggle. I don't think the author intends to talk down to her intended audience, but perhaps she can't help it. An example: in the beginning of the book she states, "But don't worry - introversion can be managed." Alcoholism and herpes can be managed. Introversion is not an affliction, it's part of who people are, and it doesn't make people lesser than extroverts are. Nor should the advice to introverts who want to do well in the workplace be "suck it up and act like extroverts from time to time."

This book was shockingly disappointing. As others have said, it was not written by an introvert (in fairness this is clearly stated early on in the book) which put me off. Still, I was open to what the author had to say, but the author clearly doesn't understand what it's like to be a leader and an introvert. There is a big difference between being shy and introverted and I feel like even though this was mentioned, the two were often confused. The advice is generic advice that could be given on most topics in most books about improving your performance. As I turned the pages I felt more and more frustrated.Would you read a book on cooking from someone who isn't a chef? How about a book on selling real estate from someone who doesn't have a license?

The Introverted Leader (IL) is an engaging no nonsense work which aims to equip the reader, primarily introverts with truly functional tools and approaches to effectively manage in the workplace.An informative quiz is first taken in chapter 3 to assess the skills strengths, address one's deficits and to also introduce the "six critical work skill areas" each covered chapter-wise (4 to 9) and which include Public Speaking, Managing & Leading, Heading Up Projects, Managing Up, The Meeting Game and Building Relationships.All the six work domains are encompassed into an excellent model ie. "4Ps" Process which is introduced by the author Dr. Jennifer Kahnweiler in chapter 2. It is a simple to comprehend four step behavioural framework which essentially aims to instill the reader with a sense of confidence (in the Preparation phase), maintain full engagement (Presence phase), by operating outside the comfort zone (the Push phase) and concluding with the (Practice) phase. As such the "4Ps Process" is very well integrated into the "skill sets" chapters in the book.Dr Kahnweiler has presented the material in a crisp "easy to read" professional format interspersed with some excellent references (eg. Jay Conger & N Anand's paper on "Networking" in chapter 9 and Stewart L Strokes' paper on "Managing the Toughest Transitions Part 1" in chapter 5 are quite seminal). There is a lot to be benefited on the professional front from going through these references too.That said (IL) is an excellent read for all executives, team leaders to-be and HODs, who want to get some valuable insight on their interpersonal skills. All in all an engaging read and a worthwhile investment. I, myself, procured two copies and am very satisfied.

I bought this book a couple of years ago and only got about halfway through it. I decided to pick it up again recently and start from the beginning to refresh my memory. Now I remember why I stopped reading it. As many others have posted, this is not a book about how to use introvert qualities in leadership. It should be called "How to be an Extrovert" instead. Besides the author admitting she is an extrovert, early in the book she says that introversion is a preference. Um, why would anyone prefer to be an introvert in this world and constantly be told they need to be more outgoing?? This really turned me off for the second time. Shelving the book again.

I am indeed an introvert in a leadership role ( plant manager) and I struggle with the responsibilities that come with the role and dealing with people all day. I found the book had some good ideas for how to make quiet time for yourself but also gave some tips on how to challenge yourself to step out of your comfort zone. For me the book was not well written but there was good content. It got a little boring half way through.
