I've been a HUGE fan of this writer since "Season on the brink". Up until recently I owned EVERY non fiction book he has written. I ordered this book expecting to enjoy it just as I have the rest. In October I suffered a major stroke, after nearly 2 months in hospitals I was released the last day of Nov. started reading heavily as I do 3 days of outpatient rehab and them hours of self rehab at home. Beyond the books I have from this author I bought this book. I am VERY sorry I wasted my money. The author now injects his biased liberal views into his writing thereby ruining this book. I had hoped to enjoy his normally wonderful writing, sadly I have stopped reading this sad excuse about a 1/3rd of the way thru. I would gladly return this sad liberal excuse for a book for a full refund. This writer needs to print a warning on his books if he is going to play Social Justice Warrior..........

Don’t waste your money. I love John Feinstein but it seems like he “mailed this one in”. No new insights. Repeats stories throughout. Timeline switches back and forth so hard to follow. Reads more like recaps of games played. Just not good.

John Feinstein is one of my favorite sports authors. He define the term "deep dive" into his subjects but this time he skims the surface. This is Feinstein Lite. Missing is the extended behind-the-scenes narrative that makes his books so special. There wasn't much in this I didn't already know.

I thought this book provided a fascinating insider’s view of the quarterback position both on and off the field. I consume a lot of sports journalism and programming and it seems like athletes are overly “media trained” to the point where they no longer say anything particularly interesting. Feinstein clearly spent so much time with the five subjects of this book that they had the opportunity to be thoughtful and insightful and they even let their guard down at times which was refreshing. Plus, you’d think that being a starting NFL quarterback, the toast of your town and ludicrously well compensated would warp your perspective on life but somehow, the four active QBs in the book come across as normal and good guys (of course, there are exceptions who aren’t featured in the book). I enjoyed reading about the varied life stories of all the featured quarterbacks but Doug Williams’s story was definitely the most interesting and inspirational. Now having read this book, I think I will have a different perspective when following the NFL and watching games.

I have read every book John Feinstein has written . Feinstein has a knack for picking very interesting topics for his books. Feinstein takes a deep dive into the lives of NFL quarterbacks. What I liked most about the book was how he humanized the players and got us into their heads. I have much more respect for these quarterbacks thanks to this book. Excellent read.

I bought this book with great hopes. Feinstein, football - what more could you ask for?Unfortunately, Feinstein produced the Andy Dalton of football books - nothing terribly bad but well below and elite level. There are some insightful moments around a couple of the QBs he highlights but, for the most part, this is a rehash of material that most football fans already know.At times, it felt like he mostly wanted to write a book trashing Dan Snyder (a book that would probably have been better). Overall, the book lacked a solid theme, it lacked insight from truly elite QBs and black QBs from this century were also missing.Not John's best effort.

First let me say that I like reading most of John Feinsteins books . But this one is not one of his best. This follows and gives history of 4 quarterbacks whom you may claim are elite depending on your opinion. They are Alex Smith, Doug Williams, Joe Flacco and Ryan Fitzpatrick. If you follow a lot of football this book may not give you much behind the scene information. If I have not made my opinion clear enough I was disappointed with this book and would not recommend it unless you are a new fan to the NFL.

For an author who has spent most of his writing about professional golfers and ACC college basketball, John Feinstein does a great job of providing insight into what it takes to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. The writing is crisp and flows well. He never gets bogged down. This is a great book for the dedicated NFL fan, and one that a casual fan as well will enjoy. I highly recommend it.

If you are an Eagle fan, you will love this book AND you will be able to relive the most glorious season in Eagle history like you were there - in the locker room, on the field, behind the scenes. It is all there for you. But even if you are not a fan of the Philadelphia Eagles, but just love pro football, you will love this book. Sal Paolantonio takes you inside the both the hearts and the minds of the Eagle players and coaches as no one else can. It is a great and quick read. Hard to put down.

I chose the highest rating because Sal delivered a great story of the 2017 Eagles journey to the pinnacle of the NFL. He explains what it means to us lifelong fans that had to wait scores of years for this special team. The backstories of the players and specifically the Philly Special play is illuminating. I recommend this book for all those who love football and the story of underdogs.

I really enjoyed the inside stories and feelings of the entire staff throughout.A few errors in the book, chapter 1 mentioned eagles and cowboys playing week 17 with both teams out of the playoffs, when the cowboys made it to the playoffs that year. Sal Pal took a cheap jab at the sixers too.

My husband is a die hard, crazy, inconsolable (when they loose) just an unbelievable fan with not enough words to describe his Eagles obsession. I got him this book, just on a limb as an add on to his birthday gift. Now, I honestly would have gotten away w just giving him this book. He can’t put this book down. He said it was the best gift ever, and he feels like he is actually in the locker room with them when he reads it, and have never felt this connected to the players, even though he has been to many games, training camp, parade, and so on.

An excellent piece of writing from one of the best sports journalists of this era, “Philly Special” is an amazing in-depth, behind the scenes look at the 2018 Super Bowl Champion Philadelphia Eagles. For both eagles and non-eagles fans, this is a wonderful, uncensored window into what an NFL team is really like. For example, the recounting of Malcolm Jenkins's speech after Carson Wentz went out for the season is awesome, it will give you goosebumps (dog pound member or not).

Being a eagles fan I had to get this and I enjoyed it...the book doesn’t go into huge detail and I didn’t really expect them too because it would be a huge book then but it covers enough and Sal Pal’s work friendship won’t Doug Pederson really helps the book...a couple of errors in the book that I noticed but nothing major

He uses his reporting skills expertly. A bit fawning occasionally but he's a Philly guy so nothing wrong with that. Learned a lot about strategy. He is a very talented writer.

I had the privilige of hearing them speak at a conference and they really do wear the hats and try to de-mystify all this investment stuff. I had more of a financial background that some of my co-investors in a newly formed investment club and this workbook was certainly a blessing to them. What's a p/e ratio well you can look anyone in the eye and give them the straight skinny after doing the exercise in this book. As a matter of fact you will come away with a few jokes to help others understand it's no big deal. So if you don't like your financial info dry then give it a try.

WAS GOOD AT THE TIME I ORDERED IT AND READ IT. NO LONGER NEEDED.

I consider reading about investing about as dull a subject as I could imagine. This book has me looking for more. An absolute breeze to read and understand. I actually knew the answer to a question asked on TV's "Win Ben Steins Money" because of this book. Forget about winning money, after reading this you'll be excited about investing it!!

Children who lack the vocabulary to distinguish the emotions they're feeling may find some comfort in this book, which makes use of masks to unmask feelings. Each spread shows little brightly colored monsters acting out different emotions--pink monsters cut out valentines and bake cookies to express love, yellow monsters play ball and open birthday presents in the name of happiness--while a gatefold page reveals a big mask of whatever emotion is covered in that spread. The eyes and noses are punched out, so children can hold those pages up and ``wear'' the mask. It's a good idea, but easier in theory; the book is heavy for the young children at whom the book is aimed, and older ones will find it hard to put on the mask, read the book, and keep the pages intact; institutions should expect rips and stock multiple copies. My son loves this book, and I think it helps a lot with his emotional intelligence.The masks come out and there is a pocket in the back to hold them in. Of course they still get left out and ripped up, though. But it's nice that they thought of the pocket. We tried very hard to keep them safe for a couple of weeks!My son and I will reference what color monster we feel like sometimes to help express our feelings. I can ask him what color monster he feels like when he seems a little overwhelmed with emotion, which helps him to stop and reflect on his feelings so we can better address the problem. It's also a little more meaningful when I tell him, for example, that I feel like the blue monster because he is jumping on me and it hurts.Also, and this was of his own design, he uses his "monster friends" to help protect him from his blinds. The tree outside his window sometimes scrapes his window, so he's afraid of his blinds. But he'll call his monster friends and/or lay their masks around his bed to help him feel safe. He prefers the green monster, to better scare off whatever is scaring him.

My 2-year-old daughter loves this book to death! I ordered it because I wanted to add a few carefully chosen books about feelings to our home library. This one is neatly interactive in that in includes detachable pages with masks illustrating each feeling. There's also a handy pocket in the back to keep the masks stored, which is helpful. It features 2 pages for each "feeling" and bright almost neon illustrations of cute monsters that are exhibiting each feeling with companion text. There are pages for glad, angry, loving, sad, silly, and worried. I think I would opt to include a few more feelings if I had a choice - perhaps a page for disappointed. I think it has been a good addition to our library, even if I am now sick of reading the darn thing. My daughter loves it though and I think it's helping her understanding the new feelings she is having as she grows.

The book itself is cute and nice for teaching kids about emotions. My only problem is the masks for each emotion, which are likely to get destroyed or lost and leave the pages with a jagged edge where they are ripped out of the book. My son pulls the masks out of the back storage folder and throws them around rather than wanting to read the book (unlike all other books we have that he wants me to read to him). Most likely I'll hide the masks and just have the book available.

There is no story to this book. It's just fun.It's colorful. It engages a kid with the shapes and faces. And its' just a fun book.If you're like me, any book that encourages a child to pick it up and turn every page until the end is a good book. Just because a book like this doesn't have a story, or a moral lesson to teach, doesn't mean it's not a good book. Kids like this book because it's fun and that makes it a winner!There is some educational value to it in that it talks about emotions (It shows different faces to match the monsters' emotions). That's good stuff, but it's not the strength of this book. The strength of this book is how much fun it is and how stimulating it is to a child's imagination.

My oldest son had Go Away Big Green Monster and it was read so often that it started to fall apart. We ordered a new copy of it and this showed up as a suggestion. Since my kids loved this book so much, we gave it a try.It did not disappoint. My middle son loves to run around with the tear out masks and acts out the emotions.I would imagine this would be a great book for kids on the autistic spectrum as it focuses on emotion and facial expression recognition.

I got this for my son who has autism just because he likes monsters and likes the other books by Ed Emberley. It has turned out to be a great book for him and my other son! It has helped them express how they feel about things which is usually difficult for them. Really a great book (even for older kids in our case.)

I bought this thinking it was a book I had as a child, in the 80's. Sadly, it was not, but the pictures are bright and eye-popping. It comes w Masks that can be stored in a back pocket of The book. Unfortunately, my toddler isn't into this book yet, but maybe in the next few years He will be.

Believe it or not...this book helps control tantrums. Most kids between 2 and 4 don't have the vocabulary to express their feelings. This book teaches them the different emotions, and assigns a color to them. If my son starts to cry, instead of getting frustrated, I can ask him, "Are you a blue monter (the sad one) or a yellow monster (the glad one)? He'll say the blue monster. It's how we get kids to verbalize instead of tantrum. It's helped immensely. I wouldn't use the mask part though, cause kids sometimes don't understand that you are behind the mask and they think you've gone away. Also recommend "Go Away Big Scary Monster" by Emberly. Fantastic!!!On a side note...I will say that I've never been able to really use the fold out pages (that has eye holes for you to look through...so you can be one of the monsters)....the book's a bit unwieldy that way. But I just ignore that part of it and just read the book like I would any other.After the "mad monster" gets mad at a kid knocking down his blocks....I ask my son - What makes you mad? And then..."What makes you sad? - Happy?" - and so on.When you tell kids to stop yelling or throwing things (or whatever your kid might do to show frustration) sometimes they interpret it as, "We're not allowed to be angry." Which'll make them robots when they grow up. This book opens the discussion up for them.
